Life Update + Semi-Hiatus

Apr 10, 2015

I haven't been able to pop in as much as I would've liked to over the past few weeks because I've been working on completing so many half-completed projects that I started on and never actually finished. It's great getting around to crossing all of these things off my ever-growing to do list but at the same time, I kind of feel like now my blog has become one of those half-completed tasks which needs some serious attention. And unfortunately, this space of mine on the inter-webs has also traveled all the way down to the bottom of my list at this point, so there's that. :/

Weekly Wishes : Vol. 8

Apr 7, 2015

Time again for my weekly goals link-up over at the Nectar Collective! Considering I hardly looked at my goals from last week I'm actually pretty proud of myself, I completed almost all of them! The only thing I still need to do are invest in my new logo {which is in the process, won't be long now}, and finish my skillshare class which is almost finished. It's just so difficult to find the time to sit down and really focus on extras but I'm trying to get better about prioritizing.

Easter! 2015 {Round 1}

Apr 2, 2015

Hi all! Just thought I'd pop in and show y'all a little recap of our first round of Easter egg hunting for 2015.

We went to a lovely little egg hunt set up by my Nana's neighborhood which is actually more like a small community in and of itself. It's a bit ridiculous honestly.

They set everything up behind the neighborhood clubhouse in separate areas for each age group. (0-2, 3-4, 5-6, then 7+) Evelyn seemed to be one of the oldest in her age group so it was just way too easy for her to snag as many eggs as would fit in her basket - with the help of myself and Aunt Sharon of course ;). It was almost unfair for the other babies who seemed to all hate the idea of being in the grass in general. No seriously, it had me questioning how the other half lives... these babies were acting like they'd never been subjected to such nonsense as crawling through grass. Poor things. They don't know what they're missing!

Overall it was a fun experience, especially once the sun came out and the breeze died down a little. They did have a "petting zoo" of sorts set up away from the egg hunts that we visited before making our way back to Nana's. I'd say that was definitely Evelyn's favorite part of the afternoon. I didn't take as many pictures as I would've liked because of all the goings on that was happening but here are a few highlights from the day!

* Side note: I recently got a new phone {thank God! Goodbye POS iPhone!} so these are the only photos I was able to recover for the time being. I will be adding more to this post this weekend probably when I have longer than 2 seconds to myself before I am interrupted by A. a very needy toddler or B. the Boss Man/Lady. So don't forget to check back!

Weekly Wishes Vol. 7

Mar 30, 2015

Hello lovely readers! I'm sorry for the radio silence over here. I don't know what it was about last week but I was just in a weird funk all week. I was crazy overwhelmed with everything going on in the real world and blogging got put on the back-burner temporarily. I'm sure you've all been there before so no need to explain further, right?

Awesome! Moving on.

I really am a little bummed about missing out on my Weekly Wishes post last week so I'm catching up this week fully charged and ready to tackle some projects! It's time to get some shit done and I am so ready! You know how some days you feel like doing absolutely nothing and getting out of bed/off the couch is literally the hardest thing to do? Well, just as those days exist, as do opposite days when you just feel like you could literally tackle anything in the world and be successful. Well, I'm determined to have many of the latter days this week. Go big or go home, right?

So let's get started! Woo!

Treat myself to a movie night. I see a Redbox in my near future. Any suggestions? :)

Invest in a new logo for this lovely little blog of mine. I think it's past due for a little face-lift around here.

Cook at least 3 nights. It's so hard for me to take the time to cook a full meal knowing that it's only me and Evelyn eating it, so most of the food will be wasted or frozen (if I remember to freeze it, which I usually don't). Anyone want to come over for dinner?

Buy a new microwave because Evelyn caught mine on fire over the weekend. I kid you not.

Find a new bank to transfer my accounts to because; Bank of America. I've been looking pretty hardcore into this online Ally Bank but I feel like it's almost too good to be true... any feedback on this one would be so much appreciated. Do you have a bank that you love and that doesn't have any crazy fees that they thoroughly enjoy slapping on your accounts for no reason? Send them my way, please!

Make sure Evelyn and I are both ready for Easter at Dad's house! The best thing about the holiday's is getting together with family and eating yummy food, and that is exactly what I am planning to do this weekend! Yay for holidays and family time!

Finish the latest course I've enrolled in on SkillShare. It's a course on productivity (naturally) and I'm excited to get it knocked off my to-do list! I've already begun using many of the {very} practical tips in the video and am excited to start tackling my ever-growing to-do list one task at a time. The clutter that it creates in my mind to have so many things going on at once is seriously daunting, so that to-do list needs to be cut in half. At the very least. By this weekend, preferably.

So how is your week looking?

First Day Of Spring!

Mar 20, 2015

Happy first day of Spring from my little boogahead!

Spring is by far my favorite season and I'm looking forward to what is supposed to be quite a nice weekend here in Georgia. Hoping you all have a wonderful weekend as well!

My Journey To Adulthood; 4 Things I Wish My 18 Year Old Self Was Aware Of

Mar 18, 2015

Lately it seems I've been doing a lot of reflecting on my "adult life" thus far...or should I say, the journey I'm still on to reach adulthood. Because I'm not totally convinced I'm there yet. Maybe after I can finally buy a house, I'll feel a little more "there". I don't know; I'll keep you updated on that though.

So far this is the conclusion I've come to regarding said journey: I have done some incredibly stupid things on my road to adulthood. But, I've also learned some extremely valuable lessons that I wish I could go back and tell my 18 year old self, so {naturally} I've compiled a list of topics to go over with that incredibly naive girl that I knew so well only a few short years ago.

Number 1

YOUR CREDIT FUCKING MATTERS. Stop right there and DO NOT submit that application for the credit card offer that was mailed to you. I know it's tempting. Just don't do it. I understand that they didn't teach you shit about this in high school but it's actually the single most important determining factor in everything you will do as an adult. So, even though you've basically been completely in the dark about this up til now because of our lack of real-life, practical education in public school systems, just trust me on this one. This is one lesson that you do not want to learn the hard way.

Weekly Wishes: Vol. 6

Mar 16, 2015

1. Update my resume.

Not for any reason in particular other than I've almost been at my job for a year now and I'd like to keep track of the new skills I've been learning. I usually try to update it every 6 months and I haven't touched it since I started back in May of 2014. It's time to freshen it up a little !

2. Go to bed earlier/Wake up earlier.

These two pretty much go hand in hand and should probably be on this list every week.

3. Finish my March Wantable Box review post for March.

I promise I will do my very best to publish this one in a timely manor. I think it's safe to say you can be keeping an eye out for this one by the end of the week!

4. Read every night before bed.

And no, reading something on my phone does not count. I'm talking about a real book here. I'm currently re-reading Tuesday's With Morrie by Mitch Albom. Love all of his books! They keep me inspired and I always interpret the lessons differently each time I read one of them.

February Wantable Box Review

Mar 10, 2015

I've literally had this post sitting in my drafts for almost a month now and just keep forgetting to post it, so I'm sorry this is coming to y'all so late! And honestly, what reminded me that I needed to publish it still was an email from Wantable telling me that my March accessories were on their way. Lol! So I may have another review coming y'alls way soon. If I can keep my shit together and actually post it, I mean. ;)

I decided to review my latest Wantable Box because my last Wantable Box review still seems to be getting some interest half a year later (sorry it's been so long ladies!), which gives me the impression y'all are still curious about what comes inside these lovely little goody boxes delivered right to your door. {re: mailbox} I know, so blissfully convenient. Plus, half the time I completely forget they're coming so it's kind of like a present of sorts - to me, from me. ;) I'm always super excited to see what they send me each month. It's a mood enhancer without a doubt! Instant happiness.

My latest Wantable Box arrived the day before Valentine's Day so I definitely have to give props for that one. It was like the universe deciding that I deserved a present, no date necessary. So thank you, fine people of Wantable, for making my weekend. And what was even better than unintentionally getting a present for myself per se? All of the wonderful goodies that came in the box, that's what!

Sunday Morning Baking

Mar 8, 2015

One of the many reasons I love Sundays:
Making breakfast with my girl. She's getting pretty good at this homemaking stuff.

Potty Training Under 2 | Is My Baby Ready?

Mar 6, 2015

So, lately I've really been thinking that Evelyn may be ready to take on the task of using the "big girl potty". I've heard/read a lot about most moms waiting to potty train until after the baby's 2nd birthday but I'm not sure how realistic that actually is. I know every child is different, but I'm a little worried about rushing into things before my little one is completely ready and then scaring her away from the idea.

I've been closely watching for signs and it seems like more and more of them have been popping up lately, which makes me feel like it's my mommy duty to go ahead and take on the challenge. Evelyn's given me all the clues I need and now it's my turn to take action. Right?

I've made a little list to put things in perspective and also to maybe get a little mom advice from those of you who have successfully made it through the potty-training phase of toddler-hood. Here are some of the things Evelyn's been doing (sometimes not regularly, but they've been done more than once):

Weekly Wishes | Vol. 5

Mar 2, 2015

Time already for another Weekly Wishes goal setting plan! I swear these weeks have just been flying by; anyone else feel that way too? I'm not sure if it's just part of being an "adult" or that I'm still overbooking my time, despite my best efforts to have no plans. {psh. yeah, right}

Balance is extremely hard to find between work and play in today's world and I feel like I'm failing in that respect, but it's certainly not for a lack of trying. Perhaps I'll change my approach and go from there. Obviously what I've been doing up to now is not working for me so it looks like I'll be doing some brainstorming soon. Any tips on time management would be absolutely lovely, and if you have something that's been working for you, please share! ;)

Sorry Folks, Georgia Is Closed.

Feb 26, 2015

Thank you, Winter Storm {whichever name we're on now, I can't keep up this year} for giving me a snow day yesterday! As soon as the snow started falling my boss called it, and the office closed. Yay! OH and the governor of Atlanta also shut the city down at 2. We take our snow very seriously around here. Lets not forget Atlanta's infamous Snowpacalypse  2014. Am I right? Buncha crazies.

I wish I could say Evelyn was super excited about this abnormal winter weather that arrived yesterday but I would totally be lying. When it started falling while we were in the car on the way home she started crying. Poor baby was scared of it. Once we got home and she saw Kingsley having so much fun in the backyard I convinced her to at least give it a shot. She clearly was not impressed.

Currently | Vol. 3

Feb 25, 2015

It has been quite some time since I've done one of these so I thought I'd give a little life update in the form of a questionnaire. You can find Vol. 1 here and Vol. 2 here. :)

Thinking About:

How ready I am for Spring to arrive. Being that I live in the South, I know many of you are probably scoffing at me right now (HA what does she know of winter, anyway?) but seriously I hate the cold. And for a southern girl like me, these past few weeks of below freezing HIGH temperatures have definitely been enough for me to start dreaming of Spring time. Not to mention the ridiculous amounts of snowfall that they've forecast for this afternoon! {Fingers crossed that weirdo groundhog was wrong this year and Spring will show up sooner than later. Whats up with that little dude anyway?} Feel free to check out my Pinterest board for some warm weather inspiration!

Weekly Wishes | Vol. 4

Feb 23, 2015

Ah, Monday. Today did not start off well so I'm hoping that putting my goals down on paper {so to speak} will help turn my luck around. It's all about optimism. Positive vibes only please.

If you'd be interested in checking out previous Weekly Wishes here they are:

Vol. 1
Vol. 2
Vol. 3

Hit publish on at least 4 of the blog posts I have just hanging out in my drafts as unfinished thoughts. I'm tired of seeing the number grow ever larger and having so many half finished projects. It's time to check some things off my bloggy to-do list! (Plus it'll certainly help me out with my goal from last week about scheduling my posts more frequently. Win-win.)

This Weekend: Relax

Feb 20, 2015

Last weekend was seriously so wonderful for me. Why? What made it so wonderful? Believe it or not, I did absolutely nothing last weekend. And it was so much needed.

Now, I say "nothing" but what I really mean is that I had no definitive plans set for those two days. This is such a rarity for me you guys. At first I honestly just didn't know what to do with my time. Finally I decided to roll with it instead of making plans with someone and just see what happened. And it turned into one of the best weekends I've had in quite some time.

My main focus was de-cluttering, and I like to think was pretty productive in that sense. I de-cluttered my home, my ever-growing to do list, and most importantly, my mind.

That Time I Went To See Katt Williams

Feb 18, 2015

Let me just start out by saying I LOVE Katt Williams. Seriously. The guy's hilarious and you and I both know it. However, my first experience at his comedy show was just not very good. Don't get me wrong, he was a good entertainer, made me laugh, told good jokes, current events were covered. It was good. Except that he ran off stage 30 minutes into what was supposed to be a 2 hour run, ending the show early and leaving us all very confused.

Turns out he really was sick. Like went to the hospital and was on bed-rest for the rest of the week and had to cancel tour dates sick. So on that note, props to him for coming on stage at all the night I went. I can certainly respect him for trying.

It really wasn't Katt that was the issue with his tour though. Even with him running off stage and the show ending early. What was worse were the less than quality "comedians" for lack of a better term that we had to endure for the 2 hours before Katt made it on stage. There were I think 4 total and only one of them barely made the cut to be called an actual comedian...the others were pitiful, at best. One even decided to go the route of making all of her jokes centered around sex and exes, etc.

Word of advice, if you are an aspiring comedian and you're on tour with Katt Williams, please come up with better material than lame sex jokes. Please.

Weekly Wishes Vol. 3

Feb 16, 2015

I've decided to bring back my weekly wishes post every Monday because

1. I miss making goals that I am actually held accountable for and
2. I'm just not ready to commit to monthly goals again yet.

Plus, I just love the idea of weekly goals. It's a great way to stay focused and make sure that you are moving in the right direction by having this little weekly reminder. So without further ado, here are my goals for the week of February 16-22!

First Time Finger Painting - Toddler Activity

Feb 15, 2015

Evelyn's first time finger painting! I definitely went the easy route with this one and bought Crayola's No-Mess finger paint and paper but it was still fun! Evelyn loved it and she doesn't know the difference yet anyway so no harm done ;) Plus, way easier clean up for mommy which means more time for chasing an amazingly fast toddler around the house.

Here's a little re-cap:

The Single Girl's Guide to Valentine's Day

Feb 6, 2015

Is it just me or is Valentine's Day the worst excuse for a holiday? I mean really. If you're a happy couple then you shouldn't need this holiday to remind you to do nice things for one another and if you're single it's like the universe is laughing at you and simultaneously giving you the finger.

I can't be the only one who feels this way.

Regardless, I've been brainstorming ways that I can make the day special for myself and also create a distraction from the general annoyance that goes along with V-day.  After all, who's better than you for making yourself happy, right?

SO, here's what I've come up with as a few options to pamper myself this Valentine's Day. Feel free to steal a few ideas, I promise I won't be upset ;)

10 Blog Post Ideas For The Uninspired

Feb 3, 2015

How do you stay inspired to blog? Does writing out a blog post come totally naturally to you with no hesitation or are you constantly looking for inspiration of some sort? I'd say I'm definitely more of the latter. It's quite inconvenient at times, but it is what it is and I've accepted it as such.

This is actually what brings me here today, because as I've been scouring the internet and Pinterest over the past few days trying to find some great ideas for fresh (but still relevant) new content for my little corner of the internet, I thought it would only be decent of me to share with you all a few of the ideas I've found. I fully intend on using every one of these at some point but don't hold me to that ;) Ha!

And without further ado, here you go:

It's Weird, Growing Up

Jan 20, 2015

"It’s weird growing up. You know that moment where you pause…everything else around nonexistent…and you’re not really sure exactly how you got here, but you’re here? That’s where I am. Life does a time lapse, and when right now comes into focus, all I can think about is the open book in front of me."

I saw that quote while reading an article online earlier and realized that it perfectly described me in this very moment. I have no idea really how I got to where I am today or how I got to the mindset I'm currently in but I am forever thankful for everything that brought me to this point. I feel stronger now than I've ever been. I feel like I can actually do anything that I set my mind to. I don't really hesitate anymore. When I want something, I make it happen. When I don't want something, I get rid of it. It's extremely freeing being able to make decisions with such certainty while still holding onto the wonder of what will happen next.
